If you have ever read your horoscope and thought — this does not sound like me at all — you are not wrong. The horoscope was not written for you. Or rather, it was not written for the sign you have been reading it for.
Most people read their horoscope for their Sun sign. The one that matches their birthday. Scorpio, Libra, Gemini. And most astrologers do not write horoscopes for Sun signs. They write them for rising signs.
That one shift changes everything.
How to Read Your Horoscope Correctly
Before we get into the how, let us cover the what. Because to read your horoscope the right way you need to know your Big Three — and what each one actually means.
Your Sun Sign is the sign the sun was moving through when you were born. It corresponds to your birthday. This is what most people know — and what most people have been using to read their horoscope. Your Sun represents your ego, who you are evolving into across this lifetime.
Your Rising Sign — also called your Ascendant — is the zodiac sign that was coming up over the horizon at the exact moment you were born. It changes every two hours, which is why astrologers always ask for your birth time. Your Rising sign is the vehicle through which your Sun moves through the world. It is not a mask — think of it more like a stained-glass window. Your Sun is the light. Your Rising sign is the filter it shines through.
Your Moon Sign is where the moon was when you were born. It moves through a new sign approximately every two and a half days, which is why birth time matters here too. Your Moon is your emotional default — how you feel, how you respond, what makes you feel safe.
These three placements together are your Big Three. And they are the starting point for everything in your chart.
How to Find Your Big Three
Go to astro.com. Click on Free Horoscopes and then Extended Chart Selection. Enter your birth date, your birth time, and your birth location. Your chart will generate instantly.
Look for the symbol on the left side of the chart wheel (house labeled 1) — that is your Rising sign. Your Sun and Moon signs will be labeled in the chart as well.
If you do not know your birth time, enter 12 noon as an approximation. Your Sun and Moon will still be accurate unless you were born near a day where the Moon changes signs. Your Rising sign will not be accurate without your birth time — so if you can, check your birth certificate.
The Right Order to Read Your Horoscope
Now that you know your Big Three, here is how to actually read your horoscope.
Read for your Rising sign first. This is the one written for — and the one that will apply most directly to your chart. When astrologers write horoscopes they use a system called whole sign houses, which places your Rising sign as your first house and organizes your entire chart from there. Reading for your Rising sign is reading a horoscope that was literally written for your chart structure.
Then read for your Sun sign. This will give you a sense of the ego-level themes at play — the areas of life where your identity is being shaped and developed.
Then read for your Moon sign if you want the emotional layer — what is happening beneath the surface, what your emotional body is navigating.
Honestly? You can stop at your Rising sign. If it is written well, it will apply.
Your Chart Already Knows What You Need
Once you know your Big Three, you have the foundation for everything. Your Rising sign shows the character your soul chose to inhabit in this lifetime. Your Sun shows who you are growing into. Your Moon shows your emotional wiring underneath it all.
And here is what most people do not realize — your Big Three can be translated into a personalized affirmation, journal prompts, and an embodiment practice that are written specifically for your chart. Not generic. Not written for everyone, which means written for no one. Written for you, from your specific placements, for exactly where you are right now.
That is exactly what the Big Three Cosmic Affirmation Reading is. You provide your birth date, birth time, and birth location. I pull your chart, build your affirmation from your specific Big Three placements, write three journal prompts to take it deeper, and include one embodiment practice to move it from your mind into your body. Delivered to your inbox within 48 hours.
No astrology knowledge required. Just your birth information and the areas of your life that are most alive for you right now.
Your chart already knows what you need. This is just the translation.
